When is Elf re-released in cinemas and how to get tickets

Let’s face it, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a viewing of the christmas classic that is Elf.

The Will Ferrell film, in which he plays Buddy The Elf, in search of his real father in New York City, has become a staple of the festive season since it was released in 2003 – so much so that there was outrage when it vanished from Christmas TV schedules back in 2016.

The good news is that this year you don’t have to wait for it to appear on TV (as fans did ever so patiently until ITV finally showed it again in 2018) – as it’s being shown at cinemas across the UK instead.

All of which makes us as excited as Buddy upon learning Santa was coming – but when’s it out and where’s it showing?

Here’s what you need to know…

When is Elf re-released in cinemas?

You don’t have to wait very long at all to see Elf on the big screen again – as it’s being released in selected cinemas today.

While some chains are showing it today, other cinema chains have screenings coming up at the weekend and next week – so best to check the website of your nearest cinema to find out when it’s on.

You shouldn’t have difficulty finding somewhere that’s showing the film – as it’s being re-released at over 400 cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

Once again, check the website of your nearest cinema to see if they’re showing it.

How can you get tickets for Elf?

Among the major cinema chains showing the film are Odeon, Vue, Showcase, Empire, Cineworld and Picturehouse.

Tickets are on sale now, although get in there quick as some screenings are already sold out.

If you miss out on Elf, however, you don’t have to miss out on catching a Christmas classic at the cinema altogether – as several other festive favourites are heading back to the big screen this year, among them Home Alone and Die Hard.

80s favourite Gremlins is also getting a cinema re-release for its 35th anniversary, in a new 4K restoration – and you can catch that one at cinemas from Friday 6 December.
