Dr Hilary Jones brands coronavirus pregnancy style test ‘unachievable’

Dr Hilary Jones has branded Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s new pregnancy style coronavirus test ‘unachievable’.

Just last night, the PM held a virtual conference where he explained the government are working on a new Covid-19 test which will deliver results in less that 20 minutes.

He told the nation that the government is hoping to increase the testing capacity in the UK to 500,000 a day by the end of October.

However, when appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Dr Hilary opened up on how he is wary about the new plans.

‘What all governments around the world are hoping for is a rapid test that gives you a reliable answer in 20 minutes or less that is the holy grail,’ he stated.

‘We need to know that these tests are as reliable as the ones we are using in the Test and Trace.’

The expert went on: ‘We have got problems with that system already, it would be great if we had a rapid test so people will know if they’re infectious in 20 minutes or not, but the technology is not yet there.

‘We need to know that it can be that reliable otherwise it could be misleading and potentially harmful.

‘If we’re going to be doing 10million tests a day, where are all these people going to come from carrying out these tests and processing them in the labs?

Boris Johnson plans to get out 500,000 tests by October (Picture: PA)

‘It is such a huge ask and I don’t think the experts believe it is achievable even by next spring, it’s a massive undertaking.’

Susanna Reid, who was hosting the show alongside Adil Ray, questioned Dr Hilary on the pregnancy style testing kits and Mr Johnson’s ‘Operation Moonshoot’, which would not need to go through labs.

He said: ‘We haven’t yet got the technology that proves it works and even if we did and had these tests available at sporting events where people are screened before going into the event who is going to…

‘The logistics of that are so immense and so mind-blowing that it would cost an estimated £100 billion to do this a year, the same we spend almost on the NHS, £130 billion.

‘It is actually unachievable.’

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.

The hit will be back with more true crime stories very soon with the promo revealing exactly when the new batch of episodes will be released.

Always one to keep its audience on their toes, Netflix shared a picture on Twitter of a forest with the caption: “Let’s see how much of a sleuth @Unsolved Mysteries Volume 1 made you…”

It didn’t take long for the streaming giant’s detective fans to decipher the mystery.

Hidden amongst the trees, in a very tiny, hidden caption Netflix sleuths discovered: “New mysteries October 19.”

Show co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer recently teased a ghost episode coming up in the new series.

Speaking to Variety she said: “I’ll qualify that and say it’s an unusual ghost episode. That’s all I’ll say. It’s different. A bit different.”

Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries has proven a huge hit with fans and even resulted in one of the cases featured being reopened by the FBI.

Episode four of the first series followed the case of 23-year-old Alonzo Brooks, who was found dead after attending a house party.

Fellow guests at the party said Alonzo – who was of African-American and Mexican – was on the receiving end of racial slurs at the bash.

The show has been a huge hit with fans

His body was then found a month later in a creek near La Cygne, Kansas but an autopsy couldn’t find a cause of death and no one was ever arrested.

In July, Netflix’s official Twitter account offered viewers a huge update on the case.

It read: “Update: The body of Alonzo Brooks was exhumed this morning. His case was recently reopened by the @FBI who are offering a $100K reward for tips leading to an arrest. If you know something please come forward. #unsolvedmysteries #Justiceforalonzobrooks.”

Unsolved Mysteries season two will air on Netflix on 19th October. Have your notepad and sense of curiosity ready.

Gogglebox’s Sid Siddiqui apologises as coronavirus forces him off show

Gogglebox’s Sid Siddiqui apologises to fans (Picture: Channel4)

Gogglebox’s Sid Siddiqui has apologised to viewers after the coronavirus lockdown forced him off the show.

The 73-year-old normally appears alongside his two sons Baasit, 34, and Umar, 41.

However, as his age lands him in the high-risk category, the star has been self-isolating amid the pandemic, leaving his family to keep the show going from their house in Derby.

Taking to Twitter, the fan favourite explained his absense to his 76,000 followers.

‘A big hi to all my friends,’ Sid started his message before adding: ‘I don’t feel you’re fans but my best and close friends.

‘I am sorry for my absence from #Gogglebox, your kind and beautiful messages always overwhelm me with touch of sadness.’

He closed off the tweet with: ‘These difficult times will pass. Please #bestrong #besafe.’

And Baasit also issued a similar response after being inundated with support over the weekend.

‘A massive massive thank you to all of you for all the #Gogglebox love,’ he wrote.

‘I won’t lie, I’m missing [Sid] like crazy but the rest of the cast and the incredible hard-working crew make me so proud to be on your telly during some pretty testing times! #thankyou.’

As it stands, more than 16,000 people have died from coronavirus with over 120,000 cases recorded in the UK.

The Tapper family have been struck down with Covid-19 (Picture: Channel 4)

Sid’s message comes shortly after Amy Tapper reassured fans her family was doing well following reports her dad Jonathan was fighting for his life in a battle against Covid-19.

Jonathan, who also has diabetes, was rushed to hospital where the 52-year-old’s family, who were also infected by the virus, feared as his symptoms worsened.

However, his daughter has now provided an update where she told fans that the ‘fam is well and healthy.’

Speaking about how Jonathan’s illness began his wife, Nikki, told the Daily Star: ‘One night Jonathan came home from work and was unable to move.

‘He had a cough and high temperature. He laid down on the sofa and – with no exaggeration – he stayed there for two weeks in our lounge room.’

More: Coronavirus

Jonathan was ‘still too sick’ to speak about his ordeal himself, and is said to be afraid of relapsing as he continues to battle the virus.

He is currently resting at home in order to get back to full health.

Gogglebox returns on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.

When McDonald and Dodds next on and will there be another season?

A perfectly normal portrait of a perfectly normal family… honest (Picture: ITV)

ITV’s new detective show Mcdonald and Dodds premiered on 1 March, providing viewers with a gentle dose of drama for their Sunday night viewing.

Taking place in the city of Bath, the show centres around DC Dodds, a shy and unassuming detective, played by Jason Watkins, who has returned to the frontline after working on the desk for a decade.

He’s paired up with the tough and driven DCI Lauren McDonald who is played by actress Tala Gouveia.

The first episode saw the pair scratch the surface of the dark secrets of a wealthy family, headed by father Max Crockett (Robert Lindsay), whose house was the scene of a deadly crime.

Viewers at home described it as ‘King Lear with a twist’ presumably refering to the power grab between Max Crockett’s three daughters and girlfriend.

So, when will it return, and how many episodes are left?

When is the next episode of McDonald and Dodds – will there be a new season?

The drama will return on Sunday 8 March and will air from 8pm to 10pm on ITV.

Episode two will feature some new faces, such as Joanna Scanlan (The Woman in White, No Offence, The Thick of It) who will play the director of a private clinic, The Mara Retreat.

Freddie Fox (The Three Muskateers), Caroline Catz (Doc Martin) and Michele Dotrice (Vanity Fair) will also join the cast.

It is not known if ITV plans to commission more episodes after the current two-part series.

There’s been a murder in genteel Bath in McDoland and Dodds (ITV)

According to The Express, executive producer Daniel Timmer explained the decision behind the two-part, two-hour episodes, saying: ‘I guess the contract with the programme with something like this is two hours is a nice time to invest in something that has a beginning a middle and an end.

‘Life is muddled and messy and doesn’t end well necessarily but this has a hopefully finite conclusion where everything is resolved.’

So… by the sounds of things, it doesn’t seem as though it will be back.

But, never say never,

The Masked Singer’s Joel Dommett fears axe after revealing Queen Bee’s identity

The Masked Singer fans think Nicola Roberts is Queen Bee – but is she? (Picture: ITV Picture Desk)

Joel Dommett has revealed he fears he won’t be asked back to host The Masked Singer after he ‘told everybody’ who Queen Bee is.

The final of the ITV talent show will come to an end on Saturday night, and there are just three contestants left including Queen Bee, Hedgehog, and Octopus.

And although the secrecy on the show is second to none, the former Extra Camp presenter revealed he let slip the identity of our favourite bee.

‘The prospect of not being asked back for series two because I had told everybody who Queen Bee is, is enough of a scare not to tell anybody,’ he told the Daily Mirror.

After a tense semi-final episode, which saw both Denise van Outen revealed as Fox and CeeLo Green unveiled as Monster, we’re left with just three stars in disguise.

As it stands, Queen Bee is the favourite to win, and fans are convinced they already know who’s under the costume, with Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts the hotly-anticipated favourite to be unveiled.

Who will win The Masked Singer? (Picture: ITV)

Jason Manford is a popular guess for Hedgehog due to clues involving links to the West End – he has appeared in a couple of plays including Sweeney Todd and Curtains – and belting out Oasis’ Don’t Look Back in Anger.

As for the Octopus, there is no clear winner at the moment with a number of names swirling around social media including Jane McDonald, Ashley Roberts, Kerry Ellis, Emily Symon, Lucy Pargeter, and Katherine Jenkins.

The 34-year-old also appeared on This Morning earlier this week where he laughed off how hard it has been to keep the hidden celebrities a secret.

But while he was remaining tight-lipped, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby couldn’t help but push for spoilers.

Joel called the Octopus a ‘mad one’ (Picture: Rex/ITV)

‘Hedgehog has thrown a lot of people off,’ the presenter smirked: ‘They were posh at the beginning, and then a bit Mancunian, and now it’s back to [Michael] Bublé again.’

He then looked really shocked as he squirmed: ‘It’s not Bublé, oh gosh, I almost just gave it away!’

Turning his attention to Hedgehog’s competition, Joel added: ‘Octopus, this was a mad one.

‘I think they were kind of hiding their voice in the early stages and now it is starting to come out, so it’s getting better.

‘But people like to disguise their singing voices and their talking voices.’

While Luke’s ex Mandy and his friend Nancy both appear in the flash-forward, Luke does not and his absence is conspicuous.

It comes after Luke dumped his girlfriend Cindy Cunningham just days after proposing to her.

A fourth fan was really upset at the possibility of Gary leaving, and wrote: “Not happy about it at all, plus they did change his character from when he left to how he was when he came back with Luke saying he’s a loser all the time.

“He was more positive when he first left. I really wanted to see him back to be more like his old self & move forward.”

Kourtney Kardashian clashes with KUWTK fan over wanting more privacy

Kourtney Kardashian bites back at fan who says she’s not entitled to more privacy (Picture: E!)

Kourtney Kardashian has grown a little tired of sharing her life on camera and she’s got no time for anyone saying she is obliged to, as she stars on a reality TV show.

The mum-of-three has starred alongside her family on Keeping Up With The Kardashians for years now, but recently announced she wanted to take a step back from filming to spend more time with her kids and gain a little more privacy.

Her decision to do so seems to have sparked a bit of a feud, though, between Kourt and her sisters Khloe and Kim.

Taking to Instagram, Kourtney shared a clip from Sunday night’s episode of KUWTK, where she’s seen venting her frustration to mum Kris Jenner over her sisters not respecting her decision to not share as much on camera anymore.

View this post on Instagram

#tonight #kuwtk

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on

Kourtney says: ‘They can’t give me one second to breathe. I shared everything from my relationship with Scott. Everything. To where all these people were involved in my relationship, it was horrible for our relationship.

‘I would fight for them if they said these were their boundaries, I would stick up for them. So I’m like, “Why would you not stick up for me?”‘

The clip prompted one fan to hit back at Kourtney and suggest that ‘contractually’ she is obligated to share her private life, and if she doesn’t want to then she should quit the show altogether.

The fan suggested Kourt is contractually obligated to share her personal life (Picture: Instagram)

‘then don’t be on the show! Contractual she cannot pick and chose….especially a relationship….sorry she’s gotta go (sic),’ the fan commented.

‘No special exceptions…no fair to the others complying with the contract!

‘If she now wants privacy she can have it….exit left…..but not while E is cutting a check and their core fan base is watching! (sic)’

Calling out the fan, Kourtney replied: ‘have you seen my contract? “Contractually”,’ while adding a crying laughing face emoji.

Kourtney biting back comes after an earlier preview clip of Sunday’s KUWTK episode did the rounds online.

The 40-year-old could be seen clashing with Khloe and Kim, as they called out Kourtney for not sharing as much on camera anymore and claiming that by her pulling back, they have been forced to share more.

‘Our job is about being open and honest and sharing a lot of ourselves and it just seems like for the past few years now, Kourtney hasn’t really been open about her personal life on camera,’ Kim argued.

More: Entertainment

‘All the days Kourtney isn’t filming, Khloe and I are picking up the slack and having to share more.’

She claimed that Kourtney is so ‘secretive’ with them now, that she finds out things about her sister by reading them online, but Kourt, who is rumoured to be dating her ex Younes Bendjima again, told her sisters to ‘respect’ her boundaries, as she would do the same for them.

‘This is crazy,’ she says. ‘If they wanted privacy, I would never follow them or expose them.’

Kaye Adams revealed she was caught up in gunfire when trying to escape riots in Hong Kong.

The 56-year-old explained there was one moment she had to flee from danger, during her recent holiday.

During an appearance on Loose Women, she joked that co-star Nadia Sawalha had begged her to come home to safety.

‘There has been a lot of trouble out in Hong Kong recently, the protests have been going on all summer,’ she began. ‘But they did come to a head in the time that I was there.

‘You go to run, as a tourist, and you don’t know where you’re running,’ she continued. ‘Because you don’t know this city.

‘Are you going to run into it? Do you run away from it?’

‘It’s not that I really feared for my life, but it was a real reminder that, in life, you can’t be too complacent.

‘A young Hong Kong gave me this mask and said, “Wear this and stay safe.”’

Kaye shared videos of the protests on her Instagram page, admitting things had become ‘too much’ and that it was ‘scary’.

The protests in Hong Kong have entered their sixth month, with more violence erupting in the city over the weekend.
