Mississauga murder suspect has criminal history in Calgary

The man accused of killing a Mississauga man in October was due to appear in a Calgary courtroom two weeks after the deadly shooting.

Brandon Horatio Drakes-Simon, 24, was arrested by Peel Regional Police Dec. 6 in connection with the Oct. 22 shooting death of Mario Ibrahim outside of a Webb Dr. condo in Mississauga.

On Monday, members of the Calgary Police Service arrested 24-year-old Melnee Christian in connection with Ibrahim’s death, charging her also with first-degree murder.

Brandon Drakes-Simon, 24 of Mississauga, is charged with first-degree murder.

She was escorted on a commercial flight from Calgary to Toronto Pearson Airport in handcuffs by Peel police Tuesday evening.

Drakes-Simon, who has appeared on Calgary’s ‘most wanted’ lists from as far back as May. 14, 2015, was due to appear in Calgary court Nov 5. for robbery and failure to appear on recognizance charges.

Those proceedings were stayed.

Sources also tell the Sun Drakes-Simon had active warrants issued against him at the time of his arrest.

Two days prior to his Oct. 22 murder, Ibrahim narrowly escaped an attempt on his life when a dark-coloured SUV pulled up beside him on the eastbound lanes of the 401 near Hwy. 427 and opened fire.

Police are also working on linking Ibrahim’s murder with an earlier robbery and shooting at a Mississauga strip club.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jason Williams faces robbery and gun charges in connection with that crime, and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for 34-year-old Justin Malcolm of Brampton, who police describe as “armed and dangerous.”

The investigation continues.

Houston Chief Blames NRA After Known Criminal Allegedly Kills Cop

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo is calling for more gun control and blaming the NRA after a known criminal allegedly shot and killed an officer Saturday.

ABC 13 reports that 25-year-old Arturo Solis allegedly shot and killed Houston Sgt. Christopher Brewster while Brewster was responding to a domestic call regarding Solis.

Solis allegedly admitted to shooting Brewster and indicated that he did so in hopes that he could avoid being arrested.

Solis’s previous criminal charges include “burglary of a vehicle” (January 2017), “evading arrest/detention” (March 2016), “harassment” (September 2016), “assault on a family member” (August 2015), and “criminal mischief” (November 2014). The charges were all due to crimes at different times, and each charge resulted in a conviction that included being sentenced to time in jail.

Despite Solis’s criminal history, Police Chief Acevedo responded to the shooting of Brewster by calling for more gun control.

Acevedo said, “Choose sides. It is right and wrong and it is not that complicated.”

He added, “Start caring about cops, children and women and everyday gun violence.”

Acevedo suggested Texas lawmakers’ refusal to pass more gun control was a show a “cowardice” that somehow set the stage for the attack on Brewster. He said, “[Brewster’s] mom, his father, his sisters, his friends, and ultimately the community he laid down his life for will be putting him to rest before Christmas because of the cowardice of the political people we have in office.”

The police chief also called out the NRA for opposing gun control.

Fergie’s pals want Prince Andrew’s sex accuser ‘put on the grill’

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson’s pals want to see the woman accusing Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her crucified on TV.

Virginia Roberts should be “put on the grill” by BBC’s famed Panorama current affairs program when she is interviewed, friends say, according to The Telegraph.

Roberts was just 15 when she says she was lured into the orbit of sinister serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who was a close friend of Prince Andrew.

She claims she had underage sex three times with Andrew when she was 17. He has denied any wrongdoing.

But in the court of public opinion, the Duke of York, 59, has come off as entitled and obtuse, and was cold and remorseless during a disastrous BBC interview.

In the wake of the train-wreck appearance, Queen Elizabeth effectively fired Andrew from his public duties.

Now, Roberts is slated to appear in an episode of Panorama airing Monday. Fergie’s friends are having none of it.

“She (Roberts) should be properly cross-examined on all the evidence that doesn’t stack up,” a friend of the Duchess of York told the Daily Telegraph.

“She should be put on the rack. The BBC cannot drill him as they did and just believe her when there are lots of inconsistencies.”

One niggling point that Andrew’s toff supporters have pointed to is the infamous photo where he has his arm draped around Roberts while Ghislaine Maxwell beams on.

Fergie’s friends are demanding Roberts reveals how much she was paid for the photo. Some of the duke’s friends have suggested it has been doctored.

Fergie reportedly wants to put the Roberts-Epstein affair behind the family ahead of Beatrice’s wedding next year.

There has been some discrepancy over whose brainstorm it was to put the prince in front of the cameras.

Initial reports said it was Fergie and their eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, who pushed Andrew into the interview. But it has also been reported that the pair tried to stop the disaster.

At a recent soiree, Beatrice was said to be sobbing over the implosion of her father’s reputation.

“Beatrice was sombre and makeup-free for the birthday dinner,” a friend told the Daily Mail.

“She was probably worried that her mascara would run. She seemed quite tearful at times. In fact, Beatrice has been in tears every day since the interview went out.”

The prince has denied any wrongdoing but in the BBC chat, admitted he “let the side down” by visiting Epstein in New York after he was released from jail for child sex offences.

Authorities say Epstein, 66, killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
